Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you lived somewhere else? If you lived in Italy, Ireland or any of the other countries that make up the Italian diaspora, wondering where your tamarind pie would be cooked, what type of bread would accompany your tomato sauce and how much “Roman” cheese you’d find on a piece of provolone? For New Yorkers who have often wondered the same thing, Zuppardo’s Family Market is a place to visit that doesn’t necessarily exist anywhere else. The small-town store in Canandaigua was closed for remodeling when I stopped by recently but an employee told me it’s being reopened as a Zuppardo’s Family Market — a name that refers to the original family members that opened the store back in 1941. (My description of the original owners is almost exactly what he said.) I could go on about how great this new incarnation will be for shoppers looking for authentic Italian-style food at affordable prices. But instead, let me leave you with this quick video that explains everything you need to know about buying authentic Italian cheese at Zuppardo’s Family Market.
What is an authentic Italian cheese?
There are many different types of Italian cheese, each with its own specific characteristics. Most people are familiar with provolone as the prototypical Italian cheese, but there are other types such as mozzarella, scamorza, caciocavallo, and many others. While some of these are more prevalent in Italy than others, the types you’ll find at Zuppardo’s Family Market are all made in the same way using the same recipes. They all come packaged in various brands and sizes, with many variations in taste and texture.

The real reason they closed their location in Canandaigua
The original location of Zuppardo’s Family Market was in Canandaigua, New York. It was located at 1811 Route 9 South, which is now occupied by Land of Enchantment Farmacy. When that location closed, the family members who own the business — Ezio, Nello, Teresa, and Umberto — started a search for a new home. They eventually settled on the current location in Canandaigua, which was formerly a Zuppardo’s Supermarket. They re-opened the store as a Zuppardo’s Family Market on July 18, 2017.
When should you visit Zuppardo’s Family Market?
You might want to visit Zuppardo’s Family Market before you make a major purchase. The place is welcoming and relaxed, with a relaxed menu. You can choose from a variety of meals, snacks, and desserts. If you’re in the mood for more substantial food, they also deliver.
Zuppardo’s Family Market is a place you can visit when you’re looking for authentic Italian food, both at home and on the go. The proximity to the lake and the state park where I live make it an ideal location for a summer getaway. The food is simply amazing.
